There are various characteristics that are common in the adults with Asperger’s Syndrome but yes the severity of these symptoms vary from individual to individual. Asperger’s Syndrome falls under Pervasive developmental Disorder or PDD and is one of the mild forms of autism in which the individual has difficulty in socially interacting with other people of the community and also find it very hard to express their own feelings.

With Asperger’s Syndrome one has no problem learning the language but they might have difficulty in understanding the undertone of the speaker like understanding sarcasm or mockery. Among the most common Asperger’s syndrome in adults are:

-Inability to get the perspective of a speaker and therefore having no clue as to the point of view of the other person
-Failing to sympathize with someone as they do not understand the emotions and feelings that others go through
-They are no able to start a conversation or even to continue with one
-The adults with Asperger’s Syndrome find intense interest in one particular topic or subject and usually their performance in that field excel the performance of the average person
-They have the IQ of the average person or even at times the IQ is above the average level
-Adults having Aspergers find it very hard to be able to control their various emotions like anger, anxiety or depression and they go through emotional outbursts
-They fail to get the various social cues and they do not understand the norms of the society
-Often times they strictly adhere to routines and feel really distressed when they fail to follow that routine
-They are not capable of understanding abstract ideas or even think in abstract ways

As a spouse, people with Aspergers have certain difficulties due to the fact that they are not familiar with the normal social formalities and they often fail to realize any of the emotions that affect their partner. They are not able to control their emotions when it is necessary and this is very difficult for the spouse. The partner will often have to take full responsibility of the two and when they decide to have children this can get far too much for the partner as he or she would be in need of more help literally and mentally. The adult with Aspergers in not able to provide what the spouse or even the children need and this causes tension and might worsen his or her symptoms.

The associates in a work place also have difficulty to co-operate with an adult suffering from Aspergers as they fail to make him or her understand their perspectives and they themselves fail to understand what the victim is going through. As the patient is unable to socially interact with his colleagues it gets very uneasy for him as well as for the others to work together, especially as a team. The victims also refuse to change any fixed routine which might not be appropriate at times and this causes a lot of stress.
